Our History

Down Syndrome Innovations, formerly the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City, was founded in 1984 by a group of parents who shared a vision: to support families welcoming a child with Down syndrome. Like all parents, they wanted their children to thrive—and sought connection, support, and a strong, inclusive community.

We were incorporated in 1986 and received our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 1987. Over the past four decades, we’ve focused on building a strong, supportive community—one rooted in trusted relationships, high-impact services, and lifelong connections. Through this approach, we’ve become a valued partner to individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the professionals who serve them.

In 2021, powered by a visionary board, dedicated team, and generous community, we rebranded as Down Syndrome Innovations to reflect our expanded lifespan services and moved into our new, state-of-the-art campus. We began services that span the entire life journey—from birth through adulthood—ensuring that every individual receives the right support at the right time.

Today, Down Syndrome Innovations is a national leader in delivering lifespan services for people with Down syndrome. With a highly certified, mission-driven team, we’ve strengthened our expertise to meet the evolving needs of the individuals and families we serve.

Through personalized, impactful support at every stage of life, we empower individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential—and we’re honored to be a trusted partner on that journey.
